Candidates need to have familiarity with some of the following equipment: Cisco Switches, Cisco Firewalls, Cisco IP Phones, UPS surge protection systems, iDirect satellite modems, KG-175 encryption devices, fixed and deployable Satellite Antennas, Block Up Converter (BUC), Low Noise Block (LNB) devices, cross pole feed, Satellite TV decoders, bandwidth sharing, TDMA and SCPC, Tranzeo 2.4 & 5.8 Wireless Bridges. Proficient in Coax and Cat5 cabling.

Need experience installing, reconfiguring, operating and maintaining deployable satellite systems (will be working primarily with small fly away terminals). Must be able to read and comprehend design and installation documents associated with the implementation of VSAT networks.

Minimum Knowledge:

Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of Cisco series switches 3548,3524,2498,3750,2948,6509 is a MUST.

Experience in securing router and switch configurations using Cisco Access Control Lists (ACLs), or similar configuration methods.

Knowledgeable in LAN/WAN technologies, including; Ethernet, frame-relay, CDU/DSUs, DSLs, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), VLANs, fiber, UTP, transceivers, NTP, RADIUS, and DHCP.

Knowledgeable in routing protocols, including; BGP, OSPF, and RIP.

Experienced using network tools to analyze and diagnose problems, including; Ethernet sniffers, Fluke or similar network analyzers, and Router Traffic Graphers.

Experience in developing router and VLAN configurations, implementing Quality of Service (QOS), IPSEC, SSH, and other configurations using the Cisco IOS or similar network device operating system.

TOKYO, SELASA- Jumlah orang Jepang yang tidak memiliki rumah alias gelandangan kini semakin bertambah, khususnya di Tokyo dan delapan kota besar lainnya seperti Nagoya.

Kantor Berita Kyodo di Tokyo, Selasa, melaporkan, jumlah warga Jepang yang tinggal di fasilitas penampungan sementara yang disediakan pemerintah lokal tercatat berjumlah 3.740 orang atau melonjak 18 persen di banding tahun sebelumnya.

Menurut survei yang digelar kantor berita Jepang itu, lonjakan tajam terlihat di kota Nagoya, kota terbesar ketiga di Jepang, dengan jumlah gelandangan mencapai 686 orang atau meningkat 40 persen. Di Tokyo sendiri tercatat sebanyak 743 orang atau melonjak 35 persen dibanding tahun sebelumnya.

Perusahaan-perusahaan di Jepang kini ramai-ramai merumahkan karyawan tetapnya dan segera melakukan pemutusan hubungan kerja terhadap para karyawan tidak tetapnya begitu kontrak usai.

Di Tokyo, para pencari kerja kian bertambah dan banyak yang memilih mengantre di kantor-kantor Hello Work, perusahaan penyedia lowongan kerja Jepang, seperti yang tampak di kawasan Shinjuku.

Chiyoda.

Sejak pagi mereka sudah berdoa memohon agar di tahun 2009 krisis ekonomi cepat berlalu. Kuil Kanda Myojin sendiri dikenal sebagai tempat untuk memohon kesuksesan dalam berbisnis.

"Saya belum pernah melihat kuil dikunjungi orang sebanyak ini. Pengunjung memiliki keinginan yang sama yaitu memohon berkat dari tuhan di tahun ini," kata Teruaki Karaki, Direktur Utama Kinzoku Industry Co, seperti dikutip Yomiru Shimbun.

Menurut pihak kuil, hingga Senin (5/1) lalu tercatat sebanyak 890 perusahaan yang sudah mendaftar untuk mengunjungi kuil. Jumlah itu meningkat 10 persen di banding tahun sebelumnya.

Walau awalnya semangat, pekerjaan rutin kerap membuat kita bosan. Bila kebosanan tak segera diatasi maka profesionalitas kerja pun jadi korban. Sebelum performa kerja anda terancam menurun, baca tips ini!

1. Tuliskan tugas sehari-hari anda.

Bikin daftar pekerjaan anda sehari-hari. Dan berikan tanda pada setiap pekerjaan yang sudah selesai anda kerjakan. Selain bisa lebih fokus dan efisien, juga bisa jadi cara jitu menghindari tudingan anda tidak cukup berusaha menyelesaikan tugas-tugas anda.

2. Minta lebih banyak tugas

Coba bicarakan dengan atasan anda dan minta lebih banyak pekerjaan, termasuk tanggung jawab yang lebih menantang. Bila memungkinkan coba meminta kepada atasan anda untuk bertukar posisi.

Jika tidak mungkin coba bantu rekan kerja anda menyelesaikan tugasnya. Jadi relawan istilahnya. Selain rekan kerja akan merasa terbantu anda pun jadi nggak bosan lagi. Tapi ingat, mintalah ijin terlebih dahulu pada atasan anda. Jangan sampai rekan anda yang mendapat pujian dari hasil kerja anda.

3. Menjadi panitia kegiatan yang dilakukan perusahaan

Bila perusahaan anda akan libur, usulkan untuk membuat liburan bersama. Ide anda perlu dilontarkan pada atasan. Berikan juga usulan tempat-tempat yang cocok untuk dijadikan tempat liburan. Bisa juga anda mengusulkan untuk melakukan bakti sosial. Selain membuat anda lebih akrab dengan lingkungan kerja, hal itu juga bisa menunjukkan reputasi anda sebagai seorang pemimpin. Pasti anda mendapat nilai lebih dari atasan.

4. Menambahkan nilai pada pekerjaan anda

Anda bisa memperlihatkan pada atasan ada bahwa anda memiliki kemampuan lebih. Deskripsi pekerjaan anda hanya perlu menyelesaikan dan mengajukan laporan keuangan standar. Bila anda mampu, mengapa tidak mencoba melakukan analisa atau mengajukan format terbaru?

Untuk mengurangi prasangka anda hanya cari muka, lakukan hal itu tanpa memberi tahu siapapun. Selesaikan sampai tuntas, dan ajukan pada atasan anda. Tidak perlu meminta jawaban langsung. Tunggu beberapa hari, sampai si bos memberikan jawaban.

5. Ambil inisiatif dan mulailah proyek baru

Jangan menunggu perintah seseorang. Jadilah pro-aktif. Coba membuat data base baru, atau cari klien baru yang cukup potensial untuk perusahaan. Bisa juga mencoba menangani materi promosi perusahaan anda.

Selalu komunikasikan dengan pengambil keputusan setiap langkah anda. Tujuan anda adalah menunjukkan kemampuan anda untuk bekerja, bukan membuat orang lain terlihat tidak mampu atau mencoba meraih posisi yang kosong.

6. Berpikirlah positif

Coba untuk selalu berpikir positif. Anda bosan karena hanya menangani email perusahaan, namun di satu sisi coba tumbuhkan pikiran bahwa anda diberi tanggung jawab mengkomunikasikan perusahaan dengan pihak-pihak lain. Jadi

7. Cobalah Istirahat

C’mon, Get Happy

1. Think positively.

Negative thinking will get you nowhere. Focus on the aspects of your work that you enjoy, such as a nice view or an engaging project.

2. Make friends.

Being a loner at work is no fun. It can make anyone self-conscious and lonely. Offer to take a coworker out to lunch, stop by to say hello or share a funny email. Having friends at work will make your day go by in a hurry. At the very least, find someone that will commiserate about how obnoxious Linda the Sales Assistant is.

3. Join the softball team.

Build better relationships with your coworkers by sweating it out and having fun with no deadlines in sight. Stick around to enjoy some adult beverages afterwards.

4. Walk to save the world.

Accomplish something with your coworkers that doesn’t involve pushing paper. Start or join a team to participate in fundraisers like Walk America and Race for the Cure.

5. Get a gym buddy.

Pump up your endorphins and your mood with a trip to the gym after work. If you already have a membership, check to see if you can get an affordable friends and family pass.

6. Listen to music.

Don’t let the phones, clacking keyboards and loud talkers bring you down. Come to work prepared with earphones and some tunes.

11. Overworked? Ask for help.

If you have entirely too much on your plate, you need to unload. Don’t hold on to too much work just because of silly pride. Ask coworkers to lend a hand. Remember, this works both ways. Be prepared to pitch in when it’s time to return the favor.

12. Avoid over-committing yourself.

At some point, you have to say no to work. You can politely offer to do the work at a later date or recommend a colleague that may be able to lend a hand. It’s okay to try to make everyone happy-just remember that the happiness you should care about most about is yours.

13. Prioritize.

When you have so much work to do, you should at least figure out where to start. Determine the importance of your tasks by asking yourself a few questions. Does this task have a deadline? Is this task important to me or to someone else? What will happen if I put this off or don’t do it at all?

If you’re busy past the point of prioritizing, just take care of the items that you would like to do the most. Accept that we aren’t all superheroes and that work sometimes just doesn’t get finished. Invest in yourself. Education, whether it’s just one class or an advanced degree, can open up new doors. A new MBA could mean finally getting promoted above middle management. At the same time, a refresher sales course can keep you at the top of your game.

A mentor can be a great resource at work. They know the company’s terrain well and can guide you on a path to success. Ideally, you should choose a mentor who has achieved success you’d like to emulate. Schedule a standing lunch date with them each month and find out what made them so successful.

Ready, Set, Goal20. Develop goals.

Sure, you’d like a promotion, but to what position? Do you want to retire with this company? Or would you rather gather experience and leave? To know what you should do today, consider what you want for tomorrow.

Avoid foods that are loaded with carbohydrates or sugars. Sure, they taste great, but they will bring down your energy level. Opt for more complex carbohydrates which will sustain your energy.

28. Don’t just sit there.

Get up and stretch your legs every now and then to help maintain your energy. Take a lap around the office and say hello to your friends. Take the time to hand-deliver a document. Use every opportunity to get up and get some exercise.

29. Drink water.

If you have a difficult boss or coworkers, but love what you do, it can be hard to justify getting a new position. However, you may be able to find a welcome change of pace in a lateral move. Try doing your same job for a different team or location and see if your outlook changes.

35. Swap assignments with a coworker.

Perhaps you feel like your friend Gary in your team gets all the plum assignments, but he feels the same way about you. The grass always looks greener on the other side-check it out and see. Try your coworker’s job on for size and see if it is better suited for you.

36. Shop around.

If you’re still feeling unsatisfied by work, go ahead and look. Compare what you have to what you might be able to get. You may find that you are being grossly underpaid or overworked, or you might realize just how fortunate you are to have your job. Either way, a job comparison can provide motivation for a job upgrade or a new appreciation for what you have.

37. Find a new job.

Finally, consider the possibility that the job you have just doesn’t fit anymore. If you’re feeling unchallenged, have no growth opportunities, or are on a sinking ship, perhaps it’s time to leave. Sometimes you’ve just exhausted the possibilities. Don’t be afraid to move on to a new company that can provide you with something better.

The purpose of a cover letter

Most employers these days still require a cover letter, particularly when you’re sending a speculative application or applying for an advertised vacancy. A cover letter is like the introductory handshake at an interview. It’s a personal greeting on paper or in an email that breaks the ice and introduces you to the prospective employer. It outlines why you’re making contact and why you’d be a valuable employee.
Your cover letter serves a number of purposes. It can act as:
A letter of introduction. Give the employer a snapshot of who you are by introducing yourself in the cover letter. Tell the recruiter why you’re writing, how you fit the bill and why you want to work for their organisation.
A selling mechanism. You have 30 seconds of a recruiter’s time to grab his or her attention, so don’t be shy; take the opportunity to market your skills, abilities, qualifications and work experience in your cover letter. Demonstrate how good you are, explain why you’re the best person for the job and outline what you can offer the company. Sell yourself on paper.
The entrée before the main meal. A strong cover letter jumps out at the recruiter and sparks interest. It whets the employer’s appetite and arouses interest in your resume.
An example of your writing skills. Your cover letter gives the recruiter a feel for your written communication skills. It demonstrates your ability to construct a letter, and employers can see your eye for detail.
A perfect skills match. A well-crafted cover letter is customised to the job and the employer. It’s not a generic ‘canned letter’ sent out to every employer. It spells out your skills and highlights how these match perfectly to the requirements of the role. Figure 8-1 shows a specific job ad and Figure 8-2 provides an example cover letter tailored to the job ad.
Initiative scores high on a recruiter’s check list, so before you start putting together your cover letter, take the trouble to do some research on the company and job. Get hold of the organisation’s annual report or hop onto the company’s Web site - you’re bound to find plenty of information on the firm, its products and services, and corporate culture.
Not only that, the recruiter will know you’re genuinely interested in the role.

Format Curriculum Vitae (CV) atau Daftar Riwayat Hidup atau sering disebut Resume, di setiap negara berbeda-beda. Hal ini karena dipengaruhi oleh budaya, kebiasaan, pandangan politik, juga aturan main yang berbeda-beda.

Sebagai contoh, untuk resume standar di Amerika Serikat (USA) tidak perlu mencantumkan hal-hal yang dianggap sangat pribadi seperti foto, status perkawinan, tempat dan tanggal lahir.

Sedangkan di Indonesia justru sebaliknya, dalam membuat CV atau Daftar Riwayat Hidup, justru wajib mencantumkan status perkawinan, tempat dan tanggal lahir, serta melampirkan foto.

Berikut ini beberapa hal yang hendaknya diperhatikan dalam membuat Curriculum Vitae (CV) atau Daftar Riwayat Hidup, atau Resume untuk perusahan/instansi/lembaga di Indonesia (baik untuk perusahaan/lembaga lokal, nasional, maupun internasional).

A. Urutan Penulisan Curriculum Vitae (Resume, Daftar Riwayat Hidup)

1. Identitas (Data Pribadi)
Cantumkan identitas anda dengan jelas, seperti : Nama Lengkap, Jenis Kelamin, Tempat dan Tanggal Lahir, Kewarganegaraan, Agama, Status Perkawinan, Tinggi dan Berat Badan, Alamat Lengkap, Telepon & HP, serta e-mail (bila ada).
Khusus untuk e-mail, sebaiknya anda memilikinya. Jika tidak memilikinya, anda dapat membuat alamat email di Gmail, Yahoo, atau Hotmail (silakan klik) atau yang lainnya.
2. Pendidikan
Cantumkan pendidikan formal dan pelatihan/kursus yang pernah anda ikuti; lengkap dengan tahun masuk dan tahun lulus, jurusan, jenjang studi, dan nama lembaganya. Urutannya dimulai dari pendidikan formal terlebih dulu, baru kemudian pendidikan non formal (pelatihan, kursus, dsb).
3. Kemampuan
Uraikan secara singkat kemampuan anda yang relevan dengan bidang pekerjaan yang dilamar. Misalkan anda melamar kerja di bidang akuntansi, maka jelaskan secara singkat bahwa anda memahami akuntansi dan administrasi, sistem perpajakan, biasa bekerja menggunakan komputer, dsb-nya. Tentu saja kemampuan-kemampuan yang anda tulis/cantumkan tersebut harus benar-benar anda miliki. Jangan mencantumkan kemampuan yang tidak anda miliki.
4. Pengalaman kerja
Cantumkan deskripsi singkat tentang pekerjaan anda pada perusahaan sebelumnya, lengkap dengan pangkat, jabatannya, jenis pekerjaan, prestasi (bila ada), tanggung jawab dan wewenang pekerjaan. Serta periode kerja, yaitu bulan dan tahun mulai menempati dan mengakhiri posisi tersebut.
Urutannya dimulai dari pekerjaan (atau jabatan atau posisi) terakhir.
5. Pengalaman Organisasi (bila ada)
Cantumkan pengalaman organisasi yang relevan (sesuai atau berhubungan) dengan jenis pekerjaan yang anda lamar tersebut. Bila tidak ada yang relevan, lewati saja nomor 5 ini.
6. Referensi Kerja (bila ada)
Bila memungkinkan, cantumkan referensi, yaitu orang yang bisa dihubungi oleh pihak penyeleksi lamaran kerja untuk menanyakan hal-hal penting seputar diri anda (biasanya nama atasan dimana anda bekerja sebelumnya).
Penting : Dalam hal pencantuman nama orang yang akan dijadikan referensi, anda harus sangat yakin bahwa orang tersebut benar-benar mengetahui tentang anda serta akan memberikan informasi positif mengenai diri anda. Seandainya anda ragu-ragu bahwa orang tersebut akan memberikan informasi positif tentang anda, maka anda tidak perlu mencantumkan referensi kerja tersebut (lewati saja yang nomor 6 ini).
7. Pengalaman lain yang menunjang (bila ada)
Cantumkan pengalaman lain yang menunjang "promosi anda". Dan sebaiknya yang relevan dengan jenis pekerjaan yang anda lamar tersebut. Jika anda melamar untuk posisi pemrogram komputer, maka pengalaman anda sebagai Ketua RW atau juara bulutangkis, tentunya tidak relevan. Jadi bila tidak ada yang relevan, lewati saja nomor 7 ini.

B. Kertas, Huruf, Foto, Dokumen Pendukung

1. Gunakan kertas putih polos
CV hendaknya polos tidak menggunakan background image (dasar bergambar). Sebaiknya jangan menggunakan form CV yang dijual di toko-toko.
2. Diketik dengan huruf standar surat resmi
CV jangan ditulis tangan, namun diketik. Gunakan huruf dengan ukuran dan jenis standar (warna hitam), contohnya font jenis Arial atau Times New Roman.
3. Foto terbaru
Lampirkan pas foto terbaru ukuran 3x4 atau 4x6. Sebaiknya gunakan pas foto berwarna, dan berpakaian resmi (misalkan jas lengkap dengan dasi).
4. Dokumen pendukung
Lampirkan dokumen atau bukti-bukti tentang hal-hal yang dituliskan dalam CV (resume), seperti ijazah, transkrip nilai, sertifikat atau penghargaan, dsb (dokumen pendukung tersebut dalam bentuk photocopy).
Agar dokumen pendukung yang dilampirkan tidak terlalu banyak, sebaiknya anda menyeleksi/menyortir dokumen mana yang paling penting dan relevan untuk dilampirkan.
Penting : Bila transkrip nilai anda tidak bagus, maka anda tidak perlu melampirkannya. Karena CV atau resume tersebut merupakan promosi diri anda. Namun, seandainya perusahaan penerima kerja meminta/mensyaratkan untuk melampirkan transkrip nilai, barulah anda "terpaksa" melampirkannya.
Sebaliknya jika transkrip nilainya bagus, anda justru harus melampirkannya.

Beberapa Saran Penting

Jujur, Jangan Berbohong

Ingat, jangan sekali-kali menuliskan pada CV anda suatu pengalaman yang anda sendiri tidak mengalaminya. Memang seseorang terkadang merasa gengsi dengan pengalaman yang dia miliki, karena merasa kalah pengalaman. Percayalah pada diri anda sendiri bahwa anda mempunyai kelebihan yang orang lain tidak punya.

Jumlah Halaman

Pada umumnya CV hanya terdiri dari 1 (satu) atau 2 (dua) halaman. Namun jika memang riwayat pekerjaan/karir anda sangat banyak, juga pendidikan/kursus/pelatihan anda sangat banyak. Dan anda menganggap bahwa itu penting untuk ditampilkan, maka anda boleh menambahkannya menjadi 3 (tiga) halaman CV sebagai lampiran Surat Lamaran Kerja, tidak masalah.
Tetapi khusus untuk Surat Lamaran Kerja, tetap upayakan 1 (satu) halaman.

Tata Bahasa, Tanda Baca, dan Ejaan

Tidaklah dibenarkan jika dalam resume terjadi kesalahan-kesalahan menyangkut tata bahasa, tanda baca, dan ejaan. Bacalah kembali tata bahasa di buku atau Kamus Bahasa Indonesia.
Jika anda menulis CV dalam Bahasa Inggris, dan anda belum yakin, maka cobalah minta dicek kembali atau di-review oleh teman/kerabat yang menguasai Bahasa Inggris tersebut.

Eksplisit (Gamblang, Jelas)

Jangan membuat orang yang membaca CV atau resume anda mengintepretasikan atau mengartikan hal yang berbeda.
Contoh sederhana : Di CV pada bagian pendidikan, anda menuliskan Sarjana Akuntansi Universitas Pancasila, dan tidak menambahkan nama kota lokasinya. Jangan berasumsi bahwa pembaca pasti tahu Universitas Pancasila itu ada di Jakarta. Oleh karena itu tambahkan nama kota dibelakangnya, misalkan Sarjana Akuntansi Universitas Pancasila - Jakarta.

Mudah Dibaca dan Mudah Dicerna

Bila perlu bagian-bagian atau kata-kata yang anda anggap sangat penting untuk ditonjolkan, dapat ditulis dengan huruf tebal (bold). Namun jangan terlalu banyak bagian yang ditebalkan, sehingga tidak terlihat lagi bagian yang sangat penting tersebut.

Cover letter tips and tricks

Your cover letter should be only one page long. Any longer and you’re giving too much information, taking up too much of a recruiter’s time, and demonstrating that you can’t summarise using a clear, concise writing style.
Keeping it simple Don’t go over the top with the design of your cover letter. Keep it simple, smart and easy to read - using the same font and style as you use in your resume. Pay attention to the design and choose a style that works well for you. Use plain fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman, Verdana, Tahoma, Century Schoolbook and Garamond - these ooze professionalism. Keep font sizes between 10 and 12 point (depending on the font). Steer clear of using graphics and fancy borders on your cover letter, unless of course you’re interested in design jobs that require more of a creative flair. Left-align your cover letter as well - this style suits current fashion and looks a lot neater.
Spacing is in No-one likes reading mountains and mountains of straight text. Not only is this hard on the eyes, it’s also a little overwhelming to the reader. Use plenty of white space to give your cover letter a lift, and remember to use blank lines between paragraphs. Leave enough space for margins, too.
Making style count Your cover letter needs to be inviting to the reader. If you’re sending your cover letter and resume by post, print it out on white or light-coloured paper. Use a laser printer for extra sharpness.
Spellang mistakes - Ooops! Your cover letter should be error free. Watch out for simple blunders such as ‘role’ being misspelled as ‘roll’ - it drives recruiters crazy. Don’t set off on the wrong foot by not proofreading your work thoroughly. Always take the time to read through your cover letter carefully before you shoot off your application to the employer. Better yet, ask a friend who’s a good speller to proof it for you - sometimes a fresh set of eyes can catch a mistake you’ve overlooked. (Refer to Chapter 7 for more on proofreading).
Using the right language Be mindful of the language you use in your cover letter. Here are eight don’ts to bear in mind when it comes to language usage in your cover letter:
*Don’t be too pushy. Being too aggressive and overpowering in your cover letter is an instant turn-off. Sure, be assertive, but not intimidating.
*Don’t come across as a desperado. You may have been trying to break into the job market for some time, but don’t come across as desperate and willing to take any job that comes along. Apply for jobs you’re genuinely interested in.
*Don’t use negative statements. Making comments such as ‘Although I don’t have . . .’, ‘Despite being . . .’ and so on does little to instil confidence in your abilities. Instead, put a positive spin on your sentences by using words such as ‘I have . . .’, ‘I can . . .’ or ‘I am able to . . .’.
*Don’t waffle. One of the big bugbears of recruiters is cover letters full of waffle. Don’t beat around the bush, babbling on and on and on - get straight to the point. Write just one page of short, snappy statements. If you have the gift of the gab and can talk the hind legs off a donkey, then edit your cover letter ruthlessly after you’ve written it.
*Don’t overuse the word ‘I’. Add a touch of variety to your cover letter by starting your paragraphs off in different ways.
*Don’t reveal too much. Avoid pouring out your heart to the recruiter, particularly if you’ve experienced bad luck in the past. Keep the sob stories off paper.
*Don’t use too many big words. Don’t go overboard trying to impress the recruiter with your extensive vocabulary. Use simple, straightforward language that every man and his dog will understand. Also, avoid using slang, colloquialisms or company acronyms.
*Don’t be fake. Never ever lie, embellish the truth or pretend to be someone you’re not in your cover letter. Remember, the writing’s on the wall when the referee checks are completed.
Handwriting doesn’t pay Today’s business world accepts no excuses for handwritten cover letters. Handwriting doesn’t look professional and makes you look old-fashioned. If you don’t have a computer at home, then find one elsewhere. If you’re not up to speed with word processing or don’t have a state-of-the-art computer, pay someone to rustle up a cover letter for you, or perhaps access a PC at your local library.
Focusing on the employer Too many people mention in a cover letter what they want from the employer, instead of focusing on the employer’s needs. A well-written cover letter convinces the recruiter you have what it takes to do the job. It outlines why the company is special and talks about how you can add value to the company’s business.
Keeping your salary a secret Don’t mention salary requirements in your cover letter. It may work against you. The interview is the best time to bring up money matters.
